Overview:
The General Manager is responsible for the full operational performance of a Captain Jay’s location. We are looking for leaders who take full ownership of their store and operate it with the mindset of an owner, not just a manager. This role owns the day to day execution of operations including sales performance, labor control, food cost management, team leadership, and customer experience.
The General Manager sets the tone for the entire store. This leader ensures the team operates with discipline, urgency, and accountability while maintaining strong standards for food quality, cleanliness, and service.
This position requires a hands on operator who leads from the floor, supports the team during busy shifts, and takes full ownership of store results.
We are looking for leaders who treat the business like it is their own and take pride in building strong teams and running highly organized stores.
Key Responsibilities:
Store Operations Leadership:
- Oversee daily operations of the restaurant ensuring food quality, speed of service, cleanliness, and safety standards are consistently met.
- Ensure the store is fully staffed, organized, and prepared for both peak and non peak hours.
- Maintain strict adherence to company SOPs, operational standards, and brand expectations.
- Identify operational issues quickly and implement corrective actions to maintain performance.
- Provide hands on leadership during busy periods and support team members on the floor when needed.
Financial Accountability:
- Own store level performance including sales growth, labor cost, food cost, and waste control.
- Create and manage schedules to meet labor targets while maintaining proper coverage.
- Monitor inventory levels, ordering, and product usage to minimize shrink and food waste.
- Review store reports and take action to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
People Leadership and Development:
- Hire, train, and develop Assistant Managers and hourly team members.
- Ensure strong shift leadership, proper staffing levels, and team accountability.
- Provide performance coaching, feedback, and corrective actions when needed.
- Build a team culture focused on ownership, urgency, teamwork, and reliability.
Training and Compliance:
- Ensure all employees follow food safety standards, sanitation procedures, and health department regulations.
- Prepare the store for health inspections and internal operational audits.
- Maintain compliance with labor laws and company policies.
- Ensure all required employee training is completed and documented.
Customer Experience and Brand Standards:
- Ensure every guest receives a fast, friendly, and consistent customer experience.
- Resolve customer concerns quickly and professionally.
- Protect and maintain Captain Jay’s brand standards at the store level.
Reporting and Communication:
- Communicate store performance, staffing needs, and operational issues to the District Manager.
- Maintain accurate schedules, reports, and store documentation.
- Execute direction from leadership with speed, clarity, and consistency.
Qualifications:
Required:
- 2 to 4 years of restaurant or retail management experience
- Proven ability to run day to day store operations and lead teams
- Strong understanding of labor management, food cost control, and operational standards
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and peak shifts
Preferred:
- Experience in Quick Service Restaurant or fast casual environments
- Track record of hitting labor targets and managing store costs
- Strong organizational, leadership, and team development skills
